This guy is a beast...inspirational video though. It goes to show you what dedication and focus on training can achieve. We should all be training for something!

Thanks for sharing this..

I don't know if he does or not,but the formation of his stomach points to steroids. When someone takes roids (alot of them, not just once or twice),your stomach tends to forms out form due to your intestines growing as well, not flat and cut up.

This is strongman, not bodybuilding. They need to eat. Have you seen his bodyfat?

I think it's subcutaneous fat. Maybe he takes steroids. But he's still repping 280pounds 13 times on the log press. That's an unofficial world record FYI.

They're all on steroids. They don't deny it.

Btw, as far as I'm aware steriods DON'T do that to your stomach. That's growth hormone, which is entirely different.

You want a picture of my stomach before & after a heavy 24h carb loading? It looks exactly like that.

What is the difference between the two?

Nevermind,I did some research and I found out.

HGH makes you GROW,not become stronger. I didn't know that EVERYTHING grows when you take HGH,even your hands,HEART(leads to heart failure) and other body parts, not just muscles.

Steroids are for strength and growth.

I wouldn't like by the links, but they should give somewhat reliable info.

Of course. I'm talking about Coleman-esque GH supplementation.

you do know that growth hormone is naturally present in your body I hope?
Yeah but so is test., but that doesn't turn out too well when you keep supplementing it.

Ok we're on the same line then.

About steroids.

I was smart enough to never take steroids during the last 10 years. However I have many friends who did, still do or stopped (due to health implications).

Their gains were quick. Muscle size & strength added up quickly. I had one friend who could eat junk food all day while being close to 200 pounds ripped. He benched 300 pounds for reps easily.

That's the good side of the story.

The bad side.
-Hearth problems
-Motivation problems (when their cycle is over & it's back to no steroids)
-Mental addiction to steriods, not being able to train without it
-Strength & muscle gains were lost as quickly as gained for the above reasons

Steroids (or any supplement, legal or illegal), don't learn you:
-To train hard
-To check your diet
-To persist
-To believe

To many, steriods are like a get quick rich sheme "I want muscles & strength, and I want it know".

Back to Derek.

Does he take steroids? I don't know.

What I know is what a 280 pounds logs press means. I can't rep that for a single. So when I see that Derek reps it 13 times??

I could start taking steroids tomorrow, but it won't get me to the same weight. There's only one thing that will:

HARD WORK

And that's what the video is about. Recheck the intro & his attitude when he reps the log press. He wanted the prize, he got it.

For your info, Derek injured his back one year before this comp. Doctors said he would never lift again.

Just to clear up, I wasn't posting any judgements on steroids. For someone to achieve that level of strength they must supplement, no doubt of that. It's a damn good achievement.
