"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

This guy may the beta-est of all time!

DEAR ABBY: I am a 47-year-old male, married for 26 years. I am hopelessly in love with my wife and still see her as the most beautiful woman in the world.

I have always been self-employed and have sometimes been at the extremes of feast or famine. During the bad times, I often worked 110-plus-hour weeks to save the ship.

Each time things have gotten really bad, my wife has had an affair to make up for the time, money and attention I can't provide her. I found out about her latest affair (her third) when I found a secret cellphone in her purse. For the last eight months, when she visited our daughter at college, she would check into a hotel with her lover.

I feel responsible for failing to meet her needs. She doesn't want a divorce, but admits she doubts she will ever fully stop dating, and says the effort she puts into deceiving me is proof she loves me and doesn't want to hurt my feelings.

I am amazed at the number of men willing to have sex with a married woman. My heart is broken, and I feel like a failure. Am I a fool to keep fighting for her? -- HOPELESSLY IN LOVE
WTF? Let's review that line again.

She doesn't want a divorce, but admits she doubts she will ever fully stop dating, and says the effort she puts into deceiving me is proof she loves me and doesn't want to hurt my feelings.

My opinion: She is fooling around - even telling him she wants to stay married AND still fool around - because this guy is just an incredible weenie, albeit a great provisioner.

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

Dear Twentee,
The situation you describe so well is unusual but does occur...An ostensibly happily married colleague of mine has been banging a married Woman, every Wednesday Afternoon, regular as Clockwork, for about 35 years....Three years ago his Wife died.....You would think these two would have flown into each others arms, but No...The same arrangement is still followed...A great argument for rejecting Marriage in favour of spinning Plates, which makes every encounter something Special!...I often reflect on whether this little charade keeps her Marriage going?

Wow, 35 years! I am just barely older than that affair. Obviously that man is not averse to commitment. He just has very specific terms.

Hmmm....not beta, just stupid.

Value, remember? If I have to work 110 hours a week to keep my lifestyle, then there's something seriously wrong with my life style.

The reason the gal started the affairs in the first place was because this guy worked too many hours, and forgot the reason why he wanted the money in the first place. (speculation, admittedly)

Men, there is a tradeoff between hour worked vs. benefits received. I can have a million dollars if I work 110 hours a week or have 2000 a week if I just work 40 hours a week - which would I choose? I'd take the 2 grand a week. Money is a tool and wouldn't do me a bit of good if I'm too tired to spend it.

This lovely wife of his is worthless to him if he has to work to keep her.
He should tell her she will stop immediately, and if not, file for divorce. Enter couples therapy.

He has to change, and when he changes, so will she.

The above reply certainly rings true. I find a lot of really bored women in my school have husbands that are very rich and successful but continually focus on their work and completely ignore the wife. They are almost oblivious to the fact that their wives are horny and looking to get laid, so they just keep on powering through. China has a lot of unhappy spouses cause both husband and wife are workaholics. When they retire, they don't even know each other or their kids.

"She's Out of Your League"

You've said it a hundred times. Maybe a thousand. And every time you say it, you train your brain to freeze the next time she walks into the room.

Leagues are a myth invented by guys who are scared of women.

She's a person. She has bad breath in the morning. She picks songs she can't sing in the shower. She overthinks her own texts.

Walk over. Say something. The league dissolves the second you open your mouth.
