I've joined the cross country running team at my school to get in shape. It's going pretty good, but I would really like to improve my preformance in races. Anybody have any tips on training, schedual, diet, etc?
You can skip the expensive cars, the fancy clothes, and the endless gym selfies. Completely unnecessary.

- Plan to run at least 5 miles in the morning time before school, at least 3 of which are at race pace (the other two being faster, of course) usually twice a week.
- After school, you're looking at around 8 more miles, roughly 5 of which approach race pace.
- Oh yeah: if you're not up to snuff, the coach might throw in 5-day/6-day alternating training weeks. (The two-a-day trains not being every day.)

Take a look at the Olympics, pal. The people who win the distance races are the ones that sprint out to the front of the pack at the start of the race and then stay there throughout. You don't see gold medalists jogging at the start of the race.Originally posted by CaptianMorgan
who the hell uses blocks in a cross country race. sprinting out infront of people and staying there for the whole race is easier said then done and all ur doing is killing ur energy. You actually have to be in good shape to do that and stay up there. Its bad strategy even if u were in good shape. U want to keep a steady pace throughout the whole race with the exceptions of ur kick and maybe the first 100 yards so u dont get stuck behind ppl. Tell me what ur fastest 5k time is Wheelin and then maybe i might consider what u r saying.

I would not recommend running as a sport. It puts too much stress on the knee joints. As you get older, the knees will get out of shape which will disable you, the fitness level will go down and you will die early.
