I still say whats up to my friends in the hallways
Avoid slang. Bear in mind that formality and artistic flair are not mutually exclusive. For instance, your sentence could be improved by writing "I still greet and mingle with my friends in the overcrowded and moldy hallways."

Also, avoid contractions. Not only are the absense of contractions more formal but you get a higher word count.
