"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

"You should really do something about that!"

Yes, some girl actually told me this, truth be told she really caught me by surprise, but let me give you the background for this first.

During the last semester at school I've developed an interest in a female friend of mine. This girl also have a good friend who I'm in the "friend zone" with, something I really don't complain about since she's not my type.

The three of us have always had a good relationship, but during the last couple of months I've started to invest a bit more time with the one I just had as an aquaintance. During exam period we've spent not few hours talking, joking and studying together. All the time dodging LJBF pitfalls and promoting myself.

However, the story is mainly about Her friend.

During the exam period me and Her meet at school frequently, however her stressed friend is also found alongside Her and it's obviously that she doesn't appreciate my company and makes it clear to Her that "we need to go and study now" + giving me the Evil Eye :p

Here the other day I figured I should try to clam her a bit, so I send her an SMS wishing her good luck on the exams that are to come. Next day I run into Her at school and we spend a few moments talking before she's called in for the exam. The only ones left in the hallway are now me and ms Stressed. I walk over to her and am about to initiate a conversation when she all of a sudden bursts out:

"You're not planning to be staying here (in the hallway)? You're getting really pushy. Everytime there's a stress-situation you're there. I really think you should do something about that attitude".

This comes from the girl that I one month later, considered to be one of my good friends, needless to say I was a bit shocked and told her "Sure, I'll go study somewhere else. Good luck on your exam".

Now, the thought I was left with was "ungrateful b1tch" so she's on my ignore for the couple of months. However, in the nice light of Being in the Past I guess I could have given her a less AFC-response.

What I'm wondering about is if I should just kill the friendship and avoid her? This could be an issue in case she now starts to hang around with the girl I'm interested in all the time.

What I'm leaning towards is to just ignore her and go on with my business, so what if she doesn't speak highly of me to the girl I'm interested in?

And in general, how good "friend" should I be with the friends of the girl I'm interested in? I'm currently going for "just enough to let her know that I have other options, but nothing too serious".

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.

She sounds like a dyke. You know what a real man would do?? Cut down a tree with a rusty saw and smash her in her dyke face with it.

Well sounds like she has the problem. She is associating her stress with you for some reason. Why are you around when she is stressed out? Why would you want to be? LOL

Usually when women start acting pissy they aren't going to go just come out and say,
"I'm a bit stressed over this exam and want to be alone" they blurt out some crap like she said...

"Nervous Around Beautiful Women? There's a Rule for That"

I could talk to any woman I wasn't attracted to. Charming, funny, relaxed. Then a gorgeous woman looked my way and I'd become a sweating, babbling mess.

The fix took me years to find and ten minutes to learn. Nervousness and excitement are the same physical state — pounding heart, adrenaline, flushed face. Your brain just picks the label. And you can pick a better one.

Rule 16 shows you how. You feel the nerves, relabel them as excitement, and let that energy pour out as enthusiasm. Women notice the guy radiating it. They always do.

Well, I have to admit it was a much as a rant as a question thread.

The reason I'm around her is because she's often in the vicinity of the girl I'm flirting with. She could feel that I'm ripping up the friend-relationship the three of us had during the semester, me flirting with her friend while I leave her no closer than my Friend zone, but who's she to decide who I'm interested in?

Thanks for the tip about mental KINO, I had given it a bit of thought, but since she's giving me a cold shoulder after I say "good luck" I figured I just shouldn't bother.

Ok, lessions learned...
- some people don't handle stress well
- avoid arguments with people that are convinced that You are a problem

And for the future...
- avoid situations where the girl you're flirting with are faced with some negative opinions about You from her own friends

One possible negative outcome on all this is that I'm obviously no longer liked by Her best friend, which could complicate things if she tells Her "Are you seeing him again? He's so annoying, let me tell you something about him..." However, if you've laid down a proper job on Her first you shouldn't fear that either. ;)

Ok, does anyone have any other GENERAL thoughts in cases when the friends of the girl you're flirting with gives you some hard critics? Either in the company of others or she faces you one-on-one?
