"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

This girl and I have been friends for a while. She comes over last night at midnight and after talking for a while--we have good rapport--she comes up to my room to smoke with me on my bed. I'm a musician and she asks to hear some of my music. I play the acoustic: according to her my voice is sexy and my songs are the type that would easily get a girl in bed. Next come the back rubs. I spend a while on her first. She lies on her stomach and I'm strattling her ass. We switch and she suggests I take my shirt off; I do. I get back on top and I suggest she does the same; she does. I tell her I don't like her bra in my way and she tells me I can unhook it but "that's all." We joke about her side boobs and she tells me that if it keeps me entertained I can keep touching them (I was already).

Eventually, I kiss her shoulderblade once, softly. She says, "well," in a soft and slightly confused voice. I do it again later and she lets out a gentle exhale. I kiss her cheek--she's smiling. I kiss both side boobs and when I move up to her cheek and say, "I'm gonna need you to turn your head a little for this one" she gets all awkward and says, "oh..no." I'm able to finish off the night without being too much of a stiff and I manage to avoid asking "why" and when she leaves she gives me a big hug, says i'm a sweet sweet boy and apologizes for the mixed signals.

What went wrong?

"She Laughed All Night. Then She Ghosted You. Here's Why."

Dinner ran three hours. She laughed at everything. You walked her to her car thinking this one's locked in.

Then: nothing. Two texts. No reply. What happened?

You did what most men do on a great date. You filled every silence, answered every question, and left her with nothing to wonder about. No mystery. Nothing to sit with when she got home.

Rule 3 of the "22 Rules" changes the ending: tell her a little, hold back the rest, and let her imagination do the chasing. The ghosting stops too.

I figured as much since she was already practically topless when I tried to kiss her, but if that is the case, what do I do now--this girl likes me and will probably still want to hang out with me. Correction: as I was writing that last sentence, she called me to invite me to her mother's barbeque. I know I should give it a rest for a little but I can't say no to free food and booze. And if she does just consider me a friend, how do I change that. Aren't all girls accessible?

Somtimes you can't conquer the girl in one night.

Just like an invading army you need to conquer new territory. Try to recreate the same situation you had with her before but instead of smoke go for a drink or two. If she again rebuffs your advances and won't let you go farther then forget about her.

Go to the BBQ and pretend like nothing has happened. Enjoy the food and the drinks.

If you're in the friend zone, you'd be better off to just forget about her and move on.

Unfortunately, it's difficult to tell from your post exactly what this woman thinks about you. Give her another shot and see how far you can get. Sometimes a little bit of patience is all you need to go all the way.

Go to the barbeque and try isolating her from the mother. Take her out on a date after the barbeque is finished. And don't drink too much - keep your head on straight for this.

"I'm Not Looking for Anything Serious Right Now"

When a woman says it, guys hear a confession. A heads-up. A scheduling conflict.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

The "22 Rules" explain why. When the right switches flip, her timeline rearranges itself around you.
