There's research being done on many different drugs that could possibly lessen the impact of covid-19. It's too early to conclude with anything and the general public should refrain from taking substances that may have showed some slight promise in research. People have already died from various things they believed to cure covid-19. Any drug or vaccine should be thoroughly tested before being administered widely.
No point in rushing a cure if it may end up killing more people than the disease it's supposed to cure. Research takes time, biology isn't simple.
Obviously a clinical trial of a promising vaccine would be top priority, don't expect it to take the insane amount of time to complete that a regular drug would normally take. It should be rushed, but in a responsible way.
Be very very critical of early research and drugs just discovered to have an effect on coronavirus. When something truly works there won't be a newspaper out there not writing about it and only the fewest of doctors would dispute it. If Avigan was a miracle cure you can be sure we'd all know by now.
Some guy died from ingesting aquarium cleaner because it had the same name as some potential chemical that COULD help against coronavirus, don't be that guy!
