What are some commendable behaviors of a man who isn't a "nice guy"?

What positive characteristics of this man help him to promote good relations with his partner? Obviously, not being "too nice" and "spoiling" her, but what "principle" does he stick to?

He sticks to the principle of rewarding good behavior with his attention and time and rewarding bad behavior by pulling away said attention and time.

He takes and lead and controls the conversation. Hes not impressed by her and her bragging. He lives in abundance and is not too attached to certain things, mainly her.

 

[Greasy Pig]

He isn't afraid to offend a woman.
For example: HB: "I love cats! They're so cute and adorable."
AFC (who hates cats): "Yeah, I love cats too! The more the better!"
DJ with principles (who hates cats): "I love cats too. I once had a hat made out of 10 cat skins (or some other statement showing your true colours)."

Sure, you run the risk of offending some crazy cat lady but at least you show her you're not scared and that you're a challenge.
