Guy makes a long journey from Carolinas to Sochi, across Atlantic, Mediterranean, and Black seas. Apparently to meet a woman.

However, onboard he had a handgun and some ammunition. Which is absolutely legal in United States. But, who follows maritime adventurers on YouTube knows that a weapon on weasel can land you in prison anywhere in the world. This is what happened in this case. 5 years in prison.
In Russia this is known as "getting someone off highway" -- spihnut s trassi. Someone gets a free boat, while the guy goes to prison. When he gets out he will have to pay storage or disposal fees, before he could leave the country.
Would he get traded before his time expires? Possibly.
For Russia this is shameful. Even though they have followed their laws. Problem here is that their laws stink and are sub-standard. Especially gun laws and self defense laws. You could go to prison and people have went to prison, if you injure a burglar that got into your home in the middle of the night. The law requires you to run and call police. Injury or death of a burglar could result in prison time.
P.S. It is useful to read comments under article link to which I provided above, because this would give you a picture of the state of Russian society today.
