Career Choice

I'm still trying to figure out what I would like to do. I plan on getting involved with investments, but still I would like a decent career, in case nothing ever comes of that. I would like to have as high of a salary as I can get. Of course this is going to involve college. I'm into philosophy, history, politics, and spirituality (I'm Buddhist.) I enjoy writing, literature, songwriting, playing the guitar, and extreme sports. I have an adventureous nature. I like to learn. I have slightly above average interest in the physical, biological, and social sciences. Math has always been my worst subject. I have a small interest in technology. Anyway, I'm not trying to make this sound like a personal ad. I'm just looking for ideas and suggestions that maybe I haven't thought of that would fit me. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I've attended some college pursuing a computer science degree but I stopped that because it didn't hold my interest. I mean I'm good enough at math to be able to handle finances. I took Accounting, Economics, and Math in Society in high school. I just can't do Calculus and I'm not really that good at Geometry.

Finance is going to kill you. The money may be good, but for some who seems to be artistic, I cant see how a career in finance is going to be good for you. No point earning a packet when you hate your job.

If you enjoy social sciences perhaps you should consider something along the lines of Industrial Phsycology or Marketing. It will allow you to use your artisitic streak a little more and you wont be stuck behind a desk all day long. It also opens up a lot of industries for you. Be it a traditional marketing role or even sales role, there is a lot of money to be made and the eventual opportunity to even employ yourself when you find your niche.

[The Inside Man]

I just got a job with a good life/health insurance company and am taking the state exam in a month. It is a good opportunity, if you get in with a good company they will train you well and more importantly be ethical and honest in their business practices. It kinda came out of nowhere(monster.com), and it is not an industry that requires a set major. Opportunities are great for personal growth, but since you're on commission (60% at first then you have the option to go 90 if you want), its all on your own achievements. Just an idea, might be something to look into.
