Why "Whatever You Want" Keeps You Single

She says the movie looks dumb; you suddenly agree. She tests you with a little attitude; you apologize for nothing.

You think you're being easy to get along with. She reads something else entirely: a man with no edges. Nothing to hold on to. No friction, no tension, no reason to wonder what he really thinks.

The "22 Rules" taught me to push back — playfully, calmly, without needing her approval. Strange things happened after that.

I dumped my gf of about 5 months a little while ago. I ended it right before I left the country for three weeks. I've been out for two weeks and still have a week until i return. Funny thing is she moves out to the college town (same place I will be moving to but in 3 weeks) the same day I get back.

At first she was almost begging me to stay, she was depressed and crying for days. I havent had any contact until today when she emailed saying "how much happier she was since we broke up" , yeah right, how could that be true when you were crying so hard and home-ridden for a week.

I guess its just a feeling that takes a while to get over... but atleast on the night i dumped her i went to a party and totally social-proofed the place and had the only three hot girls at the place on me. It seems when im out with other people im great, but when i think of her and the relationship i start feeling like crap.

Any suggestions./comments/advice appreciated.

"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

If she was really so "OK" with the break up, she wouldn't feel the need to let you know.

You dumped her, now move on and forget about her. Women don't dwell on their decisions like men do. Act the same way.

Music helps get over things... I dunno, that's all I can remember about how I got over break ups in my AFC days.

too true. I HATE angry white people music for the most part (I'm a jazz man myself) but I have to say, early Korn like untouchables is GREAT breakup music. the songs are all about hating her for what she did to you, or similar topics. I'm surprised more people haven't recommended it.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
