I cut my hair as short as possible with a trimmer but I am not hairless in the middle, still its so short that my head looks really white and some people that know you ofc wont like it because it is an extreme. Actually, the day before, my sisters boyfriend had to tell me again that I look better with longer hair, but tougher without. My dad always had to tell me what he felt about it, but he gave up cause he has some kind of einstein-look which is easy for me to pick on so it just backfired.
However, several people, mostly men, will tell me that I actually look good with buzz cut. I barely heard anything when I had normal hipster-hair cuts with short on the sides and longer on top. Why it works "ok" for me, (saying "ok" because I am not amazing with women yet so I dont feel like I can say my looks are making my life easy lol) is because my forehead and my headshape is smaller compared to my face. Now, my jaw is weak so it is important for me to grow out a beard to create an illusion. Together with the bald headshape and beard, the overall impression now looks healthier and more in place.
The important thing with being bald or having very little hair is your head shape and beard. You need to have VERY handsome facial features to be able to be bald and clean shaved, this is for 99% of people the chemo-look. The best thing you can hope for is to be bald and grow a nice beard. It takes the attention away from the head also.
A nice tip is to be tanned if you are a bald white guy. You look way healthier, and if you are hairless around the center it looks more forgiving aswell. I would use those melanotan shots if I could find a decent website that sold them that I could trust, would help a lot and save u time instead of constantly be under a sun bed and aging your skin.
As a bald guy you can also afford dressing more daring without it coming across as too much because of a fag hairstyle. People tend to respect you a little bit more imo because you look different than most. But I do agree, you are off the market for some women who have the ideal man in their head. I just happen to love this style so much that I dont care.
So to sum it up:
Bald + beard + tanned, specially if you are very white and on the skinny side and can look a bit sickly + more muscles.
