ObieJuan, I was careful to mention pseudoscience. The two are very closely related and while there are pseudosciences which are not paranormal (e.g. muliple chemical sensitivity syndrome), everything paranormal is pseudoscientific once you “scientifically investigate” it.
Earlier, it was mentioned elsewhere the “difference” between western vs. eastern horoscopes but what astrological “method” is used is moot when the underlying premise is categorically false. Further, if one supposes that taking one set of factors into account as opposed to taking different factors into account—e.g. Chinese horoscopes “[take] into account the day, time and location of your birth to create a birth analysis to identify probable character traits and influencess” (Franciso d'Anconia)—make any real difference then one must be taking the full of astrology seriously. Which is to say, if the second of the minute of the hour you were born makes a difference in the horoscope and therefore someone's actual personality—since horoscopes are “so accurate”—then astrology must be being taken seriously as actually true.
I would write more but it's time for bed. In the meantime, check out this short video clip.
Go ahead, let’s hear it.With that said I can at least assert that the reason astrology has been around so long is not for those aforementioned reasons.
“We don’t know what we don't know” is a fallacious argument when what science does know for fact effectively eliminates the possibility of existence. I refer to the highly regarded expert astronomer Phil Plaitt who wrote this brilliant essay which demonstrates why astrology is impossible to be true even if “unknown forces” were in play. There is nothing to be open-minded or “fair and balanced” about when the truth is lopsided and consequently the opposition is just wrong. And yes, science does explain a large fraction of this world and the universe more than any mystic would ever want to admit.Even science does not explain a fraction of what goes on in this world, or universe for that matter.

Yes, of course, you don't have an mechanism of causation because before one can explain something one must first have an observable phenomena which for our astrologers is sorely lacking.I do not claim to understand how astrology works or have an explanation as to why it is an accurate representation of the type of person I am it does give a good idea of what others would expect if we were to meet.
