"You Can't Argue a Woman Into Liking You"

You made your case like a lawyer. Stable job. Good guy. Ready for something real. All true. All irrelevant.

She weighed your points, nodded along, felt nothing — then fell hard for some tattooed bartender with a motorcycle and a gambling problem.

Logic is where attraction goes to die. The "22 Rules" work a level deeper, on the subconscious switches that decide within minutes whether you register as a MAN or as part of the furniture.

Stop presenting evidence. Start flipping switches.

Hey y'all. Since I found SS I've seen this forum as a study in sociology, and I come back here often because the whole attitude and idea behind SS intrigues me.

I tend to be a very dominant guy. Among my friends I'm almost always the unspoken leader, and in unfamiliar group situations I always assert my dominance right away. It's always been an unconscious thing for me, but lately I've been studying a good deal of sociology, and have become aware of what I do when I relate to other people.

I like feeling in control.

I have a friend (Shaun) that I hang out with two or three times a month usually. Unlike most of my friends, I find that whenever we're together we are constantly fighting for that Alpha status. We like and respect each other, but there's always that tension. In larger groups our competition becomes so obvious that throughout the night we unconsciously divide the group between us - he becomes the center of half the group, and I become the center of the other half. If we're in a room you can literally see the split down the middle.

To make matters more complicated, I am very close to his wife. I tried to pick her up before I found out she was married, and we've been like brother and sister ever since. People see that there's a close bond between us, and often think that we're going out because of it - I used to work at the college she attends, and for a good few months we had half the school thinking we were together. Ostensibly this heightens the tension between Shaun and I... his wife is always joking with me about how he sees me as a threat. [Yeah, I know a lot of you don't condone friendships between guys and girls, but I'll tell you... she's the best wingman I've ever had ;)]

What it all boils down to is simply this: I'd like my friendship with Shaun become less confrontational, and the only way I can see for this to happen is that one of us concedes to the other's dominance. I've been studying kenesics, and some psychology, but I'm curious about any perspective someone else might be able to shed on the matter. When it comes down to it, I'm a stubborn ass, and I'm not very willing to be the one who concedes defeat... in that case either things will continue to be tense between us, and that's just the way our friendship will work, or I'll have to end up the victor in this little war.

"How I Made Sure No Woman Ever Friend-Zoned Me Again"

She calls you when her car breaks down. When she needs help moving. When some guy she's actually dating treats her badly.

You're the listener. The reliable one. The guy who would treat her so much better, if she'd just open her eyes.

She won't. You trained her to see you as the low-effort option — the friend who requires zero risk and zero investment. Every favor dug the hole deeper.

The "22 Rules" break the pattern. You'll stop auditioning for a role she already cast and become the man she chases instead. It starts with Rule 1.

Or, as it were, some specific advice on asserting one's dominance in this sort of situation.

Personally I would just let him have his "alpha" status.

Wherever I am I honestly dont give a damn who is alpha because I do my own thing regardless if people follow me or not.

yeah, what Julian said.

Personally, this 'Alpha male' stuff is a bit stupid & immature. With the people i hang out with, it's never an issue who can display their dominace. You know, we just along, do our thing, etc.

I've met people who obviously want to show they're the 'alpha male', & it comes across as desperate & they're blatantly deeply insecure.

I just don't think too much about it. Being 'alpha' isn't something i'm that bothered with.

So, in answer to your question.. er.. beat him up?

"I'm Not Looking for Anything Serious Right Now"

When a woman says it, guys hear a confession. A heads-up. A scheduling conflict.

Here's the translation: I don't feel anything. Right now. With you.

Watch what happens when a man triggers actual attraction. The busy career, the recent breakup, the "not in a place to date" — all of it evaporates instantly. The same woman who was guarding her freedom is suddenly free every night.

The "22 Rules" explain why. When the right switches flip, her timeline rearranges itself around you.
