Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

Bingo!!! This isn't even getting into more dusquieting facts, such as:
-Our "first choice" is frequently some gal we met when both us and her still had baby teeth in our jaws, and believed to be the most divine creation since running water, DESPITE the fact that we'd not even flirted(much less bedded)another girl, at that early stage in our lives. Stands to reason that our first choice is likely to be ill-considered
Or
-The chick who's a suitable fit for us at one moment(Insert your own joke about the direction Barack and Michelle's union seems to be headed, ever since they left The White House) in time likely WILL NOT be at some later date. Similarly, we probably won't always be an ideal fit for them

Short term compatibility is not always long term compatibility and sometimes people actually take that into account.
Sometimes people have critical differences that make them simply incompatible no matter how much they want to be compatible.
Neither person should have to sacrifice a key part of who they are in a long term relationship and if they do that means the two people were not compatible to begin with and should never have stayed in the relationship past a certain point.

Or you don't have the value. A lot of people might just go for the highest value person they see at first, then learn that either they aren't at that SMV, or that person is a jackass because they are spoiled with options. I don't find the subject line surprising at all.

Or you went for it, married, and got divorced! After that you dated a bunch and gained wisdom that taught you there are no soul mates, just a few good matches but not many.
