Just because people are murdered all over the world for all sorts of reasons does not mean that murder is socially acceptable. To be socially acceptable, something has to a) be legal and b) not considered morally reprehensible.

That 12 were elevated by St. Paul (who really founded the Christian Church) was in keeping with 12 being such a nice number, and was in keeping with the 12 tribes of Israel, etc. And of course, society was patriarchal, so they would only be me.
Mary Magdalene was a woman mentioned in the canonical Gospels (and seemingly the only one other than Mary the Mother).
