What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.
You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

Dunno that Cumberbatch has ever been much of a panty dropper, and self-described Feminist Gosling IS the sort of "warm" man the narrator describes

And the ironic part is being a warm man is sometimes all you need to get her depending on the woman. Being cool is for the attraction, being warm is the connection and bonding factor. You just need a little teaspoon of coolness in the beginning of the relationship, then plenty of warmth from here on there if you got a quality woman.
