approaching older girls and emails

ok guys i have a quick question (story included):

today I was at a clothing store and i saw a cute hb8 employee. I thought i might as well practice my dj skills and i walked up and asked her " what jeans look better 1 or 2?" She gave me her opinion and i said somthing funny and we started talking. We had heavy eye contact ( I could tell she was into me) we kept talking for about 20 min. So we get around to the topic of school. So she turns out to be in university. When she asks me i name the highschool i go to. suddenly she goes all cold.( I think she did that because I was younger.) So i ask for her email and she replies with i dont have a pen. so i grab one and ask her, she hesitates and i said " ok its ok if you dont want to give me your email." and i left. the end.

ok heres the question. what should have i said when she asked what school i was from just before i found out she was older?

i always ask how old they are first and if say im a year older then thye are if they are more then 3 years older i usually say oh me too even if they dont believe you because in the youth years girls dont seem to like younger guys =(

one thing why did you ask for a email instead of a number? another thing is what grade are you in cus if your like 11th grade yea i can see why she was like that and also for her that would be illegal dude.
