I think learning Hacking skills is going to be the most important factor to give us an evolutionary edge. Everything now is dictated by hackers. They run the world. Computer geeks are the new alphas, and whether you are a good or bad hacker, this is probably the most important skill you can learn.

I'd like to learn more, for myself, not to make trouble, or save the world. I just want this skill set. If anyone on here has some skills, I'd like to learn.

If you want to learn how to hack, then you need to learn about some kind of technology. There's different types of hackers: hardware, software, telephone, credit / debit card, lock picking, and all kinds of other stuff. I know how to do a few things. I don't think you can actually learn hacking from other hackers. You need to be somewhat well-versed in some sort of technology and then you start experimenting with it.

If you dont think Hackers run things, youtube a couple videos and find out whats really going on. Hackers know the future and they create it. The founder of apple was a hacker. Does Apple have much influence in your life?

Des, what I have going for me is curiosity. I've gotten into learning programming and codes off and on over the year and I've learned a few tricks. There is a Hacker conference in Vegas every year with 7000 attendees including CIA recruiters and spies. There are lots of regional groups and clubs where hackers share and discuss ideas. Just wondered if anyone here was into it.

I don't dive into hacker groups. I just like to learn things and do things for my own benefit (which does NOT entail crime). I mostly modify hardware, but I've retrieved passwords, broken into computers, and even broken into FB accounts.

Javascript is the future.

Right now the HAWTNESS in the hacker community is node.js - some crazy bastards figured out how to get javascript (language written to manipulate pages in web browsers) to work on the server side to build realtime apps. This has been done before but never has adoption/excitement been so widespread. As a result people are building some very exciting software, from video conferencing, to collaborative editing and even coding up full-on games in pure javascript. Node lets you easily develop for multiple platforms. You can even create native mobile apps and get them on the app store using services like Phonegap or Trigger.io - overall this is the platform that hackers are having the most fun with. The community is vibrant and growing exponentially. When you consider that you can write your own chat server in about 15 lines of code its easy to understand why

If I was starting from scratch right now, I would definitely learn me some javascript. An excellent book to read is Douglas Crockford's "Javascript: The Good Parts"

Side note: I havent seen this much excitement around a platform since PHP first got traction about 20 years ago. 90% of today's web sites (inluding Facebook, Amazon and other heavy hitters) are done in PHP. Many of their engineers said if they were starting from scratch node would be the move. LinkedIn, Microsoft, DOW Jones and many others are already on board.

And that's after stuxnet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuxnet

Blowing up the Iranians' stuff without even having to fly a drone or missile over there is pretty cool.
I think hacking by governments will be the future not individual people.

Just go and google "FBI arrests anonymous hackers" or "Interpol arrests anonymous hackers" and you will see how often high profile hacking group members are easily brought down and arrested.

Basically in addition to the Israeli's disabling uranium facilities, China also developed an awesome virus that infects computers to steal blueprints! Industrial espionage taken to the next level

I think I have been hacked. I think someone hacked an old email account I have not used in years and then got into facebook and changed the password. I got back in and changed the password again. I dont know if it will stop it again very easily though.

Hack the planet

- Hackers

I thought this was an awesome movie when I first saw it, so ahead of its time! Still love watching it to this day. Its fun. :)

I used to spend all my time on BBS's when I was 13 yearsold. If you want to know some stuff about the hacking scene from way back, loop up the online magazine REALITY CHECK NETWORK and Rebel Chicken. I used to love getting the emags they put out every month, such a shame they all went to jail and were later recruited into the CIA after serving their sentences.

I would think the best route to go down to be a Hacker would be to get your A+ and N+ certifications and CCNA/CCNP. I guess by Hacker, I mean a guy who gets paid by an organization to do that... I'm getting old. :D

How is a trade being someone's *****? Guys that work in the oilfields pull down six figures a year. You only need to work two or three years if you are smart to retire abroad.

I think someone just hacked my email. I can't login now. It says the password has been changed.

You don't ask around to become a hacker you kind of just become one through java c++, basic programming skills, and a keen understanding of how internet works.

Hackers get the blunt of force when they're caught so I would recommend staying a script kiddie, someone who just uses what the hackers already made. Just don't go around saying you made it or "accomplished" something.

Hacking is an overused term. The real hackers are just like Frayzer said with programming and Internet skills. Then there are script kiddies who aren't as skilled as hackers but to run some of the scripts they run takes more skills than 98 % of people in the world have. In my time as a Cyber Detective for a police Dept I would not crown myself a hacker or script kiddie but I got myself access to systems in my cases most of the time by one method or another. But do I call myself a hacker? No.
