I'm just curious if anyone here is trying to break into Hollywood? A friend of mine, moved out to LA 3 years ago--and he has yet to find work. Should he keep after his goal?

I'm amazed at just how many talentless people make it big in Hollwood. What do they have over actors who studied and crafted his/her skill?

Is it luck, timing, or what?

I'm not a big movie buff, so fill me in.

I'll tell you what it is- it aint talent or skill or looks or anything- its contacts. its simply who you know.

If you want more proof of this just check out the whole Hollywood dynasty thing- Nicholas Cage is Francis Ford Coppola's nephew, and Sofia Coppola is his daughter. Gwyneth Paltrow's related by law to Steven Spielberg and George Clooney's dad owns a TV station.

The worst actor in our school drama class now has a permanent spot on a major Aussie soap, simply because he had mates on the show. I've been on the same show a couple times myself, but only as an extra.

Are you planning on moving to the US or can you make lots of money acting in your country?

it is close enough.

If you just want to be a working actor, which is only 3% of all actors in the unions, you had better be good looking, talented, and driven. Most people do not qualify in any of those areas. So I would only do it if you really had the desire because you will be giving up everything in order to survive. This is why most actors turn into demanding drama queens once they succeed as a way of dealing with all the rejection thay had to deal with early in theri career.

If your friend is a chick, chances are, after a while she will end up doing porn. Profesional Actors are, emotionaly unstable (one of the reasons nobody in hollywood can have a healthy relationship). When it comes to the looks; not only do you need to be decent looking, but you also have to be different then everybody else. You'll notice that each one of the top actors are different from the other, none of them are simular, in looks or the way they act. Knowing people doesn't hurt eather.

I wouldn't live in hollywood if you paid me.
