As far as the "feeling against being sold" everyone has that. That's why a good salesman doesn't make you feel like he's selling you something as much as he is showing you something you like and providing it for you.

here is how you don't sell lol.
you know it's that time of the year where the police officers around the country start calling random motherfvckers for donations. I am a big hearted guy and I don't have a problem with this and usually do donate. anyway this guy calls me and i already know the deal, but i let him run through his sales pitch. he asks me what donation level i want to give and i ask what are my options. he tells me the three "VIP" packages are gold , 300, silver 200 and bronze 100. 300 bucks is not a lot i can swing that pretty easily, plus it's a tax write off lol. tell him yeah just sendf out whatever the hell you have to send out i will have my wife cut a check no problem. the dude is like "so just to confirm you want to do the gold package". i'm like yeah that's cool. he's like, are you sure... i'm like dude, yeah. send it out. so he goes on again and then like 20 seconds later he's like now are you SURE i'm like dude what you are trying to say lol, do you not want the fvcking money or what. if i did not want to send you anything i would have hung up on you lol. **** dude come on i'm dying over here i got **** to do.

i don't deal directly in sales, i'm an account manager and i work with growing the existing accounts my firm has given to me as well as maintain good relationships with them.
We have to cold call people or get meetings through my existing network at the firm and rule number 1 is, never give them a reason to cancel your meeting. Once i get them to agree to a call, in person meeting at their office, or etc. that's the end of it. I tell them i speak/see them then and never follow-up. A follow-up gives them a chance to cancel.
Sales is a little bit different as you do need to follow-up so its important to build a relationship. you rarely have anyone buy your product without trialing/trying it out. When i won the last firm competition for getting the most trials, i never once mentioned to them anything about price/selling them. I just told them what the product did, how it would benefit them, and if they have a few minutes, i'd be glad to get them setup.
Keep it really short and to the point. Most people are busy and generally don't read past a few lines in an email.
