another thread about height

i'm sorry, but today i'm really concerned about my shortness, so i want solace

i was wondering one thing:

my father is 5'9 and my mother is just 5'5. i'm the shortest child, although i'm the older one (i'm 18 years old and i'm 5'9 too)

my 17yr old brother is 6'0.
my 15yr old brother is 6'1 and reached this height when he was 14.

plus, my little brother became the tallest in his elementary school when he was 8 years old and he still is (he's in sixth grade now)

does anybody else experience this into his family? it's so strange to me and i wonder if i'm still going to grow.

what strikes me is that even my grand parents were short-average height and my relatives too (i just have ONE uncle out of 13 who's 6'3, the other ones are around 5'8), so i don't know how my brothers came to grow this tall.

any ideas?

I play Basketball too . I'm currently 19 (turning 20 in August) and standing @ 6'2. Hopefully I'll grow one or two more inches before 21 when you stop growing, for men. I don't know when women stop growing .

i think men nowadays stop growing around 17, not 21 anymore, for they mature earlier

The theory I always heard is that playing basketball makes you tall. Jumping stretches your leg muscles or something like that. You'd have to start from a young age though. So sorry.

actually, all of my brothers has played basketball (and that tall uncle of mine too)... but so did I! why the hell were just they that enjoied the benefits?!?! plus the tallest one of my brothers stopped playing years ago, while i still play at least once a week...

Spiking your hair, and having a built body makes you look tall. My cousin is 5'9", has a built body (mainly the chest has to be big) and my dad is 5'11", but I always think he's taller than my dad until I see them side to side.

i wouldn't be so sure. i know a guy who has got a handsome body and is really built. he's 5'11, but looks shorter, since he's got a really large upper body

5'9 isnt short man.....

average is 5'8- 5'9.

I'm 5'10 right now, but im only 15.

This has been discussed several times before (as you noted in your thread title). There is no way for people on an internet message board to determine your genetic makeup. You could stay the same height or shoot up like a weed, we have no way of telling. All you can do is wait.
