I was at my local drug store picking up some muscle milk, the employee there told me to take it when I wake up, and after my workouts, becuase if i take it before my workouts, im feeding body and it wont burn the stored fat, but nutrients i just put in, he said if i take it when i wake up ill refuel my body from the previous workout and the supplement would be out of my body within 4 hours, leaving my muscles hungry for more until the next time i would feed them, being after my workout, is he correct?

Pretty much, yes. He sounds like he knows his ABCs.

Muscle milk = sugar. The two times in the day when sugar is generally okay to have is first thing in the morning, and right after a work out. At both of these times, your muscles and body is starved for energy, and a fast acting carb(sugar) will be absorbed by the body instead of stored as fat.

If you take it pre workout, then you're giving your body the energy it needs to get through that workout without digging into fat stores for energy. It's not that big a deal, but the two optimal times are at breakfast and post workout.

cheers

I never really liked muscle milk, but that's just me. A lot of calories and stuff that isn't neccesary.. a good powder has just as much protein and aminos with less calories.

Then again if you're really game on gaining weight, go ahead.

As for taking a protein shake before the gym.. I don't know about that. I've never really heard anyone recommend this for "energy". If anything, you want to take aminos before work out. Check out "Xtend" by scivation.

Yes take a shake before you workout. And why not just get whey? its a hella a lot cheaper. And then you can mix your own ingredients in it and create a freakin awesome caloric shake.
