How many people here listen to Jazz. I'm a pro Jazz musician, been at it for quite a while, but I notice that Jazz seems to be on the decline these days.

I love Dianna krall, Etta James, Nina Simone, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Chic Corea, on and on add infintium.

Jazz is ok. What Ive found is that its funner to play jazz than listen to it. Jazz seems like background music for sensual settings, not something I would think about going to a cancert for. Im in our top school choir (about 20 kids) we did some jazz stuff and it was really fun to sing. But I prolly wouldnt listen to it.

I consider myself a jazz bassist... Although I haven't played jazz with anyone for years, and now I'm into producing hip-hop (heh)...
I always liked the classics: Django, Duke, etc., but I also like the swing era, especially Frank Sinatra and co.
Jazz is great.

I listen to an extremely wide range of musical styles. Jazz is one of the least enjoyed on my list, but I can take it in small doses. I prefer blues and the big band sound (ie Glenn Miller) over jazz. I'm also finding myself enjoying the heavy metal / opera combination (ie Nightwish).

Most genres experience a revival every couple of decades. Brian Setzer did this with rockabilly and swing, and Nightwish is only following in Louise Tucker's footsteps.

I think what Jazz really needs is for someone to take it to the next level. Jazz is one of the few genres that hasn't been resurrected from the dead and put back into the mainstream.

If I'm incorrect and there is/has been something released as of late, please correct me.

There are some quality jazz-rap bands and producers where I live (the Balkans). Kanye West uses a lot of jazz elements in his production, like Jay-Z's "Encore" and "Lucifer", amongst others.
It's around. You just have to have an ear to recognize it.
Melodic metal bands like Nightwish have been around for awhile. It's actually all I can take when it comes to metal. That and some thrash, a bit of death, and some industrial metal.
I listen to too much music, anyway. (Local radio DJ :yes: )
