It's coming to 9:00pm and I've just realized I have spent practically all day on my computer... and this isn't an abnormality. I'm 21 and while worried about myself I'm more concerned for even younger kids. I will (and can) endeavor to get out a lot more (my photo album consists of "night time pictures" :( ) and get some more hobbies, but what about the "myspace generation" or kids even younger who have practically grown up with this all around them? Are they giving up their bicycles for computers, and the internet? What do you guys think about our growing reliance on technology and it's affects on society?

I had many hobbies when I was younger, but sitting here on the computer just seems easy. I can socialize on facebook, research on wikipedia and entertain myself in countless ways... but I realize and over-indulgence in this is very bad. I just want to go back to the old-school you know?

I think once the U.S government's program C3I becomes self aware like the fictional Skynet it is the beginning of the end for humanity.

Read the short story online called "I have no mouth but I must scream" to see why.

Was this thread inspired by my Zen cell phone thread. Anyway, for my incite on this you can read it there.

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

I had exactly the same complaint about myself. Then I bought a house and was amazed to find out I'm in a tiny dead spot where it's not possible to get any internet but dialup.

It's been a year and I don't think I would spend nearly as much time on the computer anymore even if I had internet at home. Try going unplugged for a while it's not nearly as bad as you would think.

Not having google & wikipedia for every single little question you have might drive you nuts for a while though.
