I think to a large degree it comes down to the mismatch of what they are sexually attracted to and the appearances and opinions they are expected to have in order to fit in with the group.
Women are much more dependent of being accepted by the group then men are. So they are much more likely to have the same opinions as everyone else, like the leftist ideals that has been pushed the last decade. They don't care about the validity of it at all, they accept it as default in order to not be outcast.
While men have no problem having different opinions that are more aligned with reality, because men are better at surviving on our own or within a small group of friends.
This is where the conflict and confusion arises in women I believe. Because their sexuality is still the same. They are still turned on by things often labeled as "bad" today (look how fifty shades of gray became a bestseller), look at erotic novels for women etc. Imagine the confusion and conflict this would create inside you, if the thing you desire and get turned on by, is labed as bad. And you also have to pretend outwardly that it is bad, in order to be part of the group, yet still you desire and are sexually attracted to the thing you are socially expected to think is bad.
And we wonder why they appear crazy and conflicted.
