Arrest of Lacombe man accused of fatally drugging woman shocks co-workers, fellow triathletes
John Jacob Jenkins was considered personable and well-liked both at work, where he was a nursing supervisor at Lakeview Regional Medical Center, and at play, where he was a member
... a darker side of Jenkins’ life began emerging Tuesday when authorities accused the Lacombe man of second-degree homicide in the bizarre death of former co-worker Jennifer DeBlonde Jacob.
Jacob, 37, of Covington, died Oct. 7 at a Lacombe fishing camp where Jenkins was living. Emergency medical personnel answered a call about an unresponsive female but were unable to revive her. St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Charles Preston said that she died from a lethal combination of illegal and prescription drugs, including heroin, methamphetamine and GHB, and ruled the death a homicide.
But the co-worker, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that Jenkins was also viewed as a “player” who would zero in on women who were going through bad divorces or who were very young. His nickname, according to the co-worker, was “Jake the Snake.”
