So, I just I'm washing clothes and I run into the Grounds Keeper at my apartment complex. We usually chat about Football (Roll Tide!) as I have a Bama sticker on my car. He's a straight up redneck, about 55 years old, but he likes the fact that I do most of my own repairs in my apartment and helped me fix my dishwasher a few weeks ago. I figure I should learn how to fix things for when I move out in a few months to my own house...but I digress.
So we're chatting and he tells me how his wife of 25 years left him. She took 8 thousand of their 9 thousand dollar tax return and ran off to Ohio in the middle of this blizzard to be with her internet lover. Her excuse, he drinks to much. She left behind her 16 year old son and 23 year old daughter who lives with them. She took the 1000 she promised her kids for their books and school stuff and told him to use the 1000 she left which was suppose to be used for bills.
This isn't her first infraction. He tells me how 8 years ago she ran of to spend a weekend in Florida with this guy and he forgave her and took her back. Mainly because, in his words, he was getting some on the side somewhere else that she didn't know about, so he felt guilty and figured fair is fair. Then she ran off for a weekend a few years ago with some other guy and he gave her an ultimatum, if she does it again don't come back. So she took him at his word...she cleaned out the house, the savings and the electronics, loaded them up in his truck and left off to brave the cold.
He says that she's up there cooking and cleaning for this guy and his 4 kids, when she wouldn't even cook or clean for her own family. This guy has no job and she's spending all of her money taking care of them.
The only advice I offered him was to keep his head on straight, not to get emotional or start heavy drinking and to secure the rest of his assets before divorcing her. He said he doesn't know if he's going to divorce her or not and that she needs to come back to her family. I just told him to let her go and move on. He said he just wanted to vent and get it out of his system. And that he just met a 27 year old who's getting divorced and has been dating her. My other advice to him...never get married again. I would have pointed him here, but when I brought it up he said he hates the internet and facebook and myspace because that's what she used to meet guys and cheat on him.
Good luck Grounds Keeper Willie!
