I went to a college in Tampa, Florida that was right on the Hillsborough River. Before he disappeared into a drain and I saw the tail, I thought I was looking at a morbidly obese rabbit. My mind couldn't fathom that a rat could be that big.

You likely saw a King Rat...In the Middle East I saw such creatures...While staying at a Syrian Hotel inside the Aleppo Main Market I saw a Butchers shop just outside the Market entrance...the Shop slaughtered and killed Sheep and Goats on the premises,chucked the Guts out into the Street Gutter,a mountain of refuse....No Municipal Cleaners,but in the morning not a trace,the Rats ate the lot!
