What about if you want to travel and see the world? Isn't the Navy a good branch to do that?
While on sea duty home-ported in Seattle, WA: Canada, Hawaii x2, Bahrain x2, Dubai x2/Abu Dhabi x1, Australia, India and the entire West Coast to include San Diego half a million times plus Norfolk, VA a few trips.
Shore duty: England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, a couple waste of money trips back to the U.S. and one last trip to Prague before the plandemic Downing Street lockdowns hit + my passport expired simultaneously as I counted down the days left in forlorn U.K., without my pistols, shotguns, knives or any common sense self-defense or leadership (military or civilian). Yes, nearby London and Bedford saw stabbings and shootings skyrocket during my time there.
If you go subsurface community bear in mind you won't be pulling into any foreign ports at all on certain platforms---Or if you are a linguist jack off you'll be sitting in Baltimore or Denver with a paper bag on your head with slits cut out for your eyes and mouth, never making anything above First Class. After the old retirement was phased out in 2018, no one really has incentives to stay beyond a contract or two.
