I also bought a fixer upper '74 BMW 2002tii 10 years ago. It's worth at a minimum $12k now. If I upgrade a few items, it's easily $15k.

You shouldn’t be buying a house to short-sell in the first place. They go up over time.

No one said anything about buying a house to short sell. The housing market is cyclic and does go up overall but how house poor and the quality of life you want will be determined by when you buy. Would you rather buy at the height or the low regardless of how long you plan on keeping it? Buying at the low allows you to build instant equity. It also gives you more padding for lower payments, avoid pmi, leverage your equity for heloc loans, let's you be house rich, etc.

No one should be buying houses right now as it's at the height.

That’s what you’re implying. Houses appreciate over time due to fundamentals that will not change. How “house poor” is the buyers choice. If you can’t afford it, don’t buy it. There is no use trying to “time” the market. Short sellers make the money on the purchase, not the appreciation.

You should be able to save a lot. They're out of production so choose a good used one. Facelift or not it doesn't matter. The limited edition ones will cost a lot more but may hold value over time.

Don't expect the AMG's modern amenities and expect even worse reliability. Ultimately it's an aspirated Ferrari engine with all the pros & cons that brings over the turboed AMG.
