Ride vs Residence

I've ridden sport bikes for a little over 10 years now and have finally parted ways with it. I have some cash saved to put a very decent down on a brand new Harley. However as a renter, I've been becoming interested in owning some property like a condo or townhome. A friend of mine has told me owning vs renting makes all the difference with women. However as a rider of motorcycles, I've found getting women with one is easy as well. I'm hoping to get some opinions from those who have had the pleasure of owning both. As of right now I only have enough cash for one of the 2. My income is decent however it would take me years to save up to get both, especially with rent being so damn high these days.

Yeah, if they are looking for a husband/provider type. The girls who will have sex with you because of the motorcycle are a different breed. They will not care at all if you are a renter. Women don't do the sexy bad boy on the bike because they are fantasizing about his investment portfolio.

And a new Harley? wtf, man? That is a fail on both levels. New bikes are a horrible investment. Women can't tell a $25,000 Harley from a $2,500 Yamaha.

Did you ditch the sport bike due to lack of comfort? Or for other reasons? There are a lot of cool bikes out there, depending on where and how you want to ride. I would never own a Harley, but there are a few custom v-twins I have seen that might be tolerable.

Most auto purchases are poor investments unless your a collector of extravagant vehicles. Purchasing property is almost always a good investment.

Because your decision seems based on gaining better access to women, neither will do that for you.

Well I work in the auto industry and have some dealer friends who will cut me great deals on models they have at their stores. So that's why I'm leaning towards new. And I sold my bike because I'm over that scene. Too many careless, young riders and sport bikes are getting stolen all the time in the city I'm living in.

The Harley is personal preference. I suppose I wrote this out wrong. I'm not expecting a woman to put out because I'm driving a Harley as opposed to a Honda.

Which asset will appreciate in the next 5 years? Most likely the home. Can you get your Mortgage payment to less than your current rent? Interest on a mortgage is a tax deduction also. Could you rent out a room for extra cash? With that savings and additional income you could potentially still afford a new bike.

^ This. Vehicles are never a good investment; especially bikes. Only buy a vehicle if you are going to keep it for at least 10 years and ride it into the ground.
