Disagree. I don't need ice cream, but every couple of months I indulge in it. But when I do, it's not out of necessity, it's a choice I'm consciously making. I don't need to get fit in the gym, but I go twice a week because it feels good and improves my health. Again, I don't need to. I could sit at home and play video games. There is very little you need on this earth. Food, water, air, shelter. Anything else is a choice you've convinced yourself is necessity.

Do we need emotional connections with others to survive?
Do we need friends to survive?
Do we need intimate companionships to survive?

No, but most people (men and woman) seek those things.

That's what men and woman can offer each other, when they are in a place to do so and want to do so.

There's no obligation to offer those things or even an expectation to seek it with each person you date, but at the end of the day, this is what most people eventually want. It always comes back to this.

He is telling you that little girls are raised with the very wrong idea that they are the leaders of the world and men are sh1t and all that. There's a difference between expressing disappointment, and assuming that ones own experiences means it's always like that with everyone and in most parts of the world.

Everyone has bad experiences with the opposite sex, not everyone takes those experiences and attributes it to a perceived epidemic of how most women/most men are.

It's like me saying "I was cheated on, therefore, most men are cheaters" or, "I dated a guy who has bi polar disorder, therefore, most men have mental illness". Or, " I got divorced, therefore, all marriages suck and should be avoided."

People who do this then look for blogs and forums and articles and 'research studies' that feed their own cancer.

Not saying people should be living on cloud 9 completely oblivious to reality but the flip side of that is a doomsday mentality. Neither are healthy.

Okay, so what rational basis does he have that girls are raised like that, beyond noting that some women that walked by looked vaguely arrogant? He didn't even talk to these chicks, he just assumed from the way they looked and walked (I.E. not hunched over with depression or covered in blocks of stone like Egyptian slaves) that they looked confident, possibly to the point of arrogance.

Whoop-de-do. If you observed me entering a party with a beer in my hand, you could probably say I look "confident to the point of arrogance". So f*cking what?

And these observations are framed with the weird subtext of "How dare women look happy and confident, they should be broken and think themselves below me."

Being an arrogant d*ck and calling out "arrogance" in others that probably doesn't exist is symptomatic of a delusional ego, not pessimism or optimism.
