This is directed at the recent "debates" we've been seeing about Red Pill Theory and the idea that LMS is the only thing that matters (absolutism). To start, let's define absolutism from a philosophical view so we are all on the same page.
"Absolutism may refer to philosophical stances which promote notions of absolute truth, involving contentions that in particular realms of thought, all statements in that domain are either absolutely true or absolutely false."
Absolutism is the opposite of relativism. In relativism, truth itself is subject to the persons own bias and filters and as such, is never objective. In absolutism, everything is objectively true or false. The problem with either extreme is that when it comes to social psychology, which is mostly what we discuss here, there is a combination of truths and there is the grey area that truth occupies. People are very similar and predictable in a lot of ways but are insanely complex and different in other ways.
For example, while we focus on the differences between men and women and how that relates to sexual relationships, men and women on the whole are actually more similar than they are different. Yet those differences, while being limited, have a dramatic impact on relations between the sexes. These seem like contradictory statements but they are congruent with psychological studies on men and women. Women tend to be more neurotic and more agreeable but the exact number is like .6 to .7. Statistically relevant but not even close to absolute.
So, to wheel this back around to Red Pill. Red Pill Theory analyses the subconscious behaviors and drives that men and women possess due to the biological imperative (the need to procreate). It is evolutionary psychology and focuses almost exclusively on subconscious behaviors that are almost universal to humanity. We all want to ****.
However, one of the things it does not deal with, is the insanely complex conscious decision making part of the equation. There are monks who sit on a mountain top not speaking, let alone having sex, for years on end. Now, one might argue that the existence of people who intentionally avoid sex would disprove the theory that we are driven by subconscious evolutionary drives but one would be thinking in absolutes. Both these ideas coexist quite obviously if you think about it.
Another example. There is nothing incorrect about saying physical appearance is important. It's undeniably true. However, it's an absolutist statement to say physical appearance is all that matters or that physical appearance will definitely limit an outcome in a certain way. Because as there are monks who do not have sex, there are guys who will have sex with unattractive women to get laid. There are women who will go for fat sweaty guys who make them laugh. Are these outcomes common? No. But since they do exist, we know that the principle is not absolute.
So how does all this relate to the recent posts and how do we use this information to better our own lives? Well, for the most part it's just that knowledge is power. That's why Red Pill Theory itself is so important. It is a set of ideas that explain why so many men fail to achieve the success they want in dating because it exposes the incongruity between what we're told about dating (conscious thought) and what people are actually like (subconscious behavior). But do not be fooled into thinking this is an either or. This, like anything relating to psychology, is a spectrum.
The easiest way to demonstrate that is to look around at all the people you know. Do they all need to ****, eat and fvck? Yes. But if you gathered a group of ten people and asked them questions about their dreams and life experiences, how similar would the answers be? In some ways similar, they want to be happy. In other ways, different, they want to be a nurse or an astronaut. Don't think that because all people want to be happy, that they can all achieve this the same way. Similarly, don't think that because women are hypergamous, that their hypergamy will look identical. Nor should you think that every woman will act on her hypergamy to the same degree. There are people who can drink in moderation and there are alcoholics. Same drive for pleasure, different levels of self control.
And that's just dealing with one factor to do with personality. People are insanely complicated, to boil down dating to Red Pill Absolutism is misleading to men who want to improve their lives and self evidently false if you look inward. Take Red Pill Theory seriously, as it's undeniably true, but to ignore the variation within that system is just ignorant. Don't be an absolutist, it will make you bitter.
Peace.
