Ladies and Gentlemen,
I present to you my incentivized plan for men and women to cohabitate.
The Rules (No Children Example)
1) They live together but have separate rooms (like in the old days). This improves sleep dramatically, and makes sure they don't see too much of each other. They don't have to sleep apart.
2) He pays all the bills. This gives her incentive to keep him happy.
3) They try to save as much as possible each month, which gets divided into two accounts, his and hers. This gives her incentive to be frugal with their income.
4) If she works at a job paying money (no stripping allowed), she needs to contribute the same percentage of her income to his account as he does to hers, and must save the same percentage herself. She can can keep the rest but ideally should spend it on things that are in his best interest (like lingerie or college classes). This gives them both incentive for her to earn money.
5) If either decides to leave, they take their savings and go. This gives her incentive to stay with him.
6) If either hires a lawyer, it comes out of their savings.
The downside for ladies: if you suddenly decide one day to have an affair with the landscaper, even though he is broke, and you had hoped to finance it by booting your husband who earned 95% of the savings, and taking his house, and taking half your net worth (even if it means cutting balloons in half) you don't get to finance boy toy with your ex's money.
How would you revise this to make a truly honest arrangement? How would you handle children? The state might say that since you paid for her ever, you have to pay forever.
