How long can a fridge/freezer be switched off for, without damaging it?

Hi, all.

Me & my GF have a fridge/freezer that we don't use anymore. My question is....how long can we leave it switched off for without damaging it??
Someone told me it can be switched off for as long as we want?

If you're going to do this, make very sure that no one, grown up or child can try to see what it's like to close the door while they're inside. It's a one-way thing.

People can be remarkably stupid and children are curious.

The old ones with the metal latches were the real death traps. But I imagine even a new one with a magnetic seal could still trap a little kid.

If you switch it off be sure to leave the doors open. If you leave the doors closed for too long eventually mold will begin to grow inside the refrigerator. The mold will ruin the refrigerator if it gets into the motor.
