Well I live alone and I am trying to put together a "chick magnet" bachelor pad, now that I am single again! Whoop... Here's what I've got so far... please feel free to add whatever you like.

1) Food and Drinks in the Fridge (A vast variety of soda, beer, juice, etc. and some good grub).

2) Soft bathroom towels (get yourself some nice "5 star" towels from Bed Bath and Beyond)

3) Candles (Not a lof of them... just a few well placed ones that shows your at least a little romantic)

4) Magazines (Not too many... get a few good ones that describe your personality. And don't be afraid to leave that playboy laying around. it makes good conversation.)

5) A couple books (make sure you've read them or you'll look like a fool.)

6) Live plants and/or animals (your a man... water something!)

7) A t-shrt for her to wear... clean and white.

8) an extra toothbrush

9) a cool (framed) poster of your fav. movie, an experience you had or anything that can get a conversation going (I have a scarface poster on my wall)

10) PICTURES! Girls love these!

11) Something weird and unusual (I have a surfing monkey on my entertainment center and an art deco of 2 girls and a guy above my bed... girls love it).

Ok this should get the ball rolling... put up your own suggestions.

I'd have to add a good selection of music. Also, good bed spread, and fluffy pillows.

Dude, screw all those little knick-knacks. That's for college frat boys. The key points of a great bachelor pad are the living room/lounge and the bedroom.

-- Now, the bachelor pad for the more refined young gentleman --

The four basics of a pimped bachelor pad lounge are:

1) Leather couch.

Black or dark brown is ideal, but depending on your personality and aura, you can get away with unconventional colors such as white or burgundy.

2) Glass Coffee table.

It can be either wooden framed for a classic, "substantial" look, a la the Goddfather, or minimalist/metal frame for a modern, crisp, hip look. Take your pick.

3) A superior Visual Audio system.

This goes without saying. Invest in a large, flat screen TV, a DVD player, and some good speakers. Here a SLENDER, ELEGANT aesthetic is key. No 50-pound, bulky speakers or TVs.

4) The "Garnish"

This should be the centerpiece of your lounge. Or it could be less pretentious, and off to the side. But ALWAYS noticeable. It could be a mysterious abstarct painting (ALWAYS mounted and framed, of course ;) ), or a sculpture. It's a bonus if you've made it yourself, but either way, it must always be a topic for discussion.

Now, the bedroom.

1) Sheets.

Always of a luxurious fabric. In the winter, satin/dark colors like blood red. Red of any shade is sensual, sometimes sexual. It is also passionate. In the summer, a cool, refreshing cotton in a neutral/pastel color is good. Soft, large pillows are a good idea too.

2) A *large*, firm bed.

For "excercise". :D Doctor's orders.

3) A marble topped side table.

It says "luxury" and "elegance" like no other.

4) Lighting that can be adjusted in intensity.

I wonder why.... hmmm. :D

THAT'S IT. Leave the Playboys in your frathouse when you graduate and leave. :D

Oops, I forgot to add one KEY ingredient for the bedroom. The DRAPES. Remember the bedroom scene in TOP GUN with Tom Cruise and that chick? The idea is to achieve that effect with the drapes. You need long, thin, wispy ones that make you feel you're making love with your woman in a cloud of mist, in the moonlight. All that new-agey crap. :D

Good luck.

Oh and get the voice activated lights etc?

How smooth is that

You get in and you push your woman gently onto the sofa, grab the bubblee and then say in a smooth low voice "Sexy Lights"
and the lights dim then you say "Sexy Music" and the smooth R&B comes on

My apartment is very well put together and extremely clean and neat, but I've been told it's a tad lacking in warmth.
Some of the highlights, though:
1) Granite-topped coffee table in front of the leather couch.
Orrefors candy bowl is on the table, with an interesting
aluminum dish and a jet-black Sasaki vase.
2) Silver-framed Patrick Nagel print above the couch
3) Short-pile carpet (commercial grade actually) - very neat
shows little dirt and never any foot marks
4) An abundance of halogen overhead lights - track and recessed - all of it on Lutron dimmers.

Whilst we're fantasizing about expensive ultra-cool stuff, I'll add some things I've seen in apartments in central London (my friend is a real estate agent).

-Fish tank for a wall, between kitchen and lounge. Filled with jellyfish, and with a UV light on the bottom, so the jellyfish glow.

- LCD glass walls. Like a normal glass wall seperating rooms/balcony, but flick a switch and it's instantly 100% opaque.

- Voice activated LINN sound systems. Speakers are hidden, and you get sound in every room.

- Wet room. Like a shower, but with no doors, shower is just in the room. Surrounded by huge tropical house plants (floor-to-ceiling stuff).

- Party Couches. Huge u-shaped couch recessed into the room, so they are just off the floor. Very cosy.

- Balcony with good view. See how easy it is to pull a woman when you see the lights of the whole city from one room.

- Smoking room. Room full of old-english stuff. Old Books, antique red-leather chairs, huge humidor, marble ashtrays, wooden tables, small bar and a pool/snooker table.

- Recessed TV. Press a button, and a plasma screen emerges from your bookcase/wall/floor.

- Huge water Mirror. A huge mirror covering a whole wall, with water running down it. Great backdrop for your bed!

- Glass floors, for multi-level homes. I've even seen one with fish in, so you can see downstairs through fish!

Oh, and German is not a throaty language, so you won't be spitting on her at all. You're thinking of Dutch, Welsh or Afrikaans.

lol huisy, great ideas...

I saw that "aquarium for a wall" idea in that movie ABOUT a BOY.. and Romeo and Juliet.. VERY cool

and also taht LCD wall thing.. i have something like that on my computer lol... I ripped out an old laptop LCD screen, hooked it up, now it goes clear/opaque witha flick ofa switch... but its not totally clear though :p

I always wanted a small nook in the wall, which a TV would fit flush against the wall. But a plasma would be even cooler

That's a cool idea. Do you mean a black light on the bottom? And where the hell do you buy jellyfish?

Yeah, blacklight, UV, same thing.

You need to buy jellyfish from a specialist store. Also, because they are quite static, you have to be careful with your tank design. You can't have any corners (they get stuck in them easily), and you have to direct water flow so that the jellyfish move around, but don't hit the intakes. Otherwise - jelly mush!

Bottom line - get loads of cash together and contact a specialist.

I don't think any of these cats said they had this stuff, hehehhe. I will just add one simple thing that every bachelor must have a few of.

Plants. They love this stuff and so should you. Get some and notice how comfy your place feels after. Make sure you put them in the right places.

Haha Yes you are!!! I went out today and bought some stuff for my redesigned pad... some satin sheets, a picture of a fat lady standing in front of a mirrior in the bathroom (comedy!), some picture frames for the entry wall, new towels for the guest bathroom, a few candle holders.

I need to get a nice blanket for my couch... i have black leather couches w/ a red/beige rug and glass table and need something to complement it... pillows look like a$$ on a leather couch so I'm not gonig that route.

oh yeah get some games guys... i have a foosball table behind my couch so we can have a little competitive fun... a few board games are cool too... girls usually like Scattergories, and any interactive game.

Im out...
