For some reason Hunger Games still stands out as a favorite in 2012. Something about that movie (ie at least at that time period), seemed very compelling. 2012 also brought us SkyFall with Daniel Craig.

For the 00s -- Chldren of Men (2006) and V for Vendetta (2005) kind of win hands'd own. You also had Gangs of New York in 2002 and Cold Mountain in 2004. Signs in 2002. War of the Worlds (2005)

There were some "Nice watch" movies like Everyday (2018), Nerve (2016), Before I Fall (2017), even A Space Between Us (2017)...that kind of resonated with me because it made me feel that I could be with the hot girl in the movie, in a soulish-level type of way that sort of brought me into the movie and actually gave me a warm experience with the female lead character viscarally within the narrative of the story.

Other movies that stood out was Edge of Tomorrow (2014) (was viewed on DVD, but when the movie clicked, I couldn't stop re-watching it multiple times). Even in the 2020s, the latest Mission Impossible movies have been great, not to mention Top Gun: Maverick.

Also the Shamalyan movies were cool in their own too (ie Split (2016), Glass (2019), Old (2021), Trap (2024).

At the time the Marvel movies like Avengers: Infinity Wars (2018), Avengers: End Game (2019), Black Panther (2018) were really great and felt more like I was part of a social event beyond the movie with all of the hype and intrigue at the time surrounding those movies.

The Greatest Showman (2017) was the best musical event I remember of that whole time period. Again, the movie was like an event to me. I was eager to watch the movie from it's creative lead song and was totally into this movie the first time I saw this.

Free Fire (2016) was a cool type of gun standoff movie what introduced me to Annie's Song. (John Denver) during a high stakes sequence.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Caute Chaute (2003), Lion (2016) are some of my favorite Bollywood/Indian movies,
especially Slumdog Millionaire.

There were some movies that I remember being very hyped about about seeing, but felt let down -- like the Terminator sequels, but we'll leave that out of this list.

Also, who can forget the John Wick movies and Matrix sequels. When Italy is involved in the background of a movie, I also remember it because, well, I visited Italy in 2006 and it adds magic to the movie (John Wick 2 (2017). But the last John Wick movie was gold (2023) Chatper 4. Also Inferno (2016) was mainly in Italy and had creative scenes involving art exhibits. Part of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoninig (2023) was shot in Venice and had a nice foot chase scene in Venice.

But the Borne Identity was also amazing too (2002-2008 proper with a last sequel made on 2016. I was totally hyped up on the Borne movies when I was in my late 20s during htat time period and they were remembered to me as "event movies" where I was really excited to watch them at the time...while they are just streaming library selections now.

Also the Christpher Nolan movie, Dunkirk, 2017 was a true masterpiece. Watched it on IMAX, and watched this movie many times over. The end credit sequence after that Churchill speech in the train after that ordeal was so perfectly placed. Tenet (2020) was a pure masterpiece as well, showing reverse and forward sequences in a nice way.

Bladeruner 2049 (2017) was also amazing, and introduced me to the Ana De Armas actress. I missed viewing it in IMAX, but eventually watched it on home release on tablet. Did not disappoint. Some epic visual scenes...one of the most colourful apocalpytic movies I've seen.

For Star Wars, I remember watching almost all of them in cinema. The Revenge of the Sith (2005), and Star Wars: Rogue One (2016) were hands down my favorite Star Wars movies that respected the cannon narrative of the movie and didn't piss on the cannon.

Good thread sir. Brings back some of the nice memories.

Just because a woman listens to you and acts interested in what you say doesn't mean she really is. She might just be acting polite, while silently wishing that the date would hurry up and end, or that you would go away... and never come back.

As movie is art, I just to share a few scenes from the movies I listed that were partiulcar moving within the time-period that I remember as these really moving scenes. Why they stand out is they have a great musical score, they bring you right into movie, and are just a very compelling memory within the movie when you watch the whole film.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008). What is important about this scene is that you are seeing very emotional flashbacks of the movie you just watched within this same scene, and a whole journey of the movie culmanting into this one moment.

This scene from Children of Men (2006) is particular powerful as it shows the military at the time calling a ceasefire in order to look at the first human baby in 18 years since humanity became infertile 18 years in a dystopian future.

The Civilian rescue for stranded soliders of Dunkirk (2017). One of the most moving parts of this movie:
The part where the Naval Captiain says "home" brought tears to my eyes in this otherwise bleak movie that brought a clearing of the clouds and hope at this moment. The music was very beautiful.

Gangs of New York was excellent. They managed to pour a huge amount of historical details into it, but a lot of it was subtle and didn't detract from the story.

The only Tom Cruise movie I ever really liked was Vanilla Sky. I think it is his only movie where he doesn't play a character who is Mr Awesome in every possible way.

You obviously didn't watch Born in the Fourth of July, he played a handicapped and was nominated for an Oscar for that performance

What are your favorite Movies based on that Timeline and Why?
There are tons of movies and tv shows, like Breaking Bad, Lost, Dexter, Entourage etc. However, here are some movies that come of top. If I really think about it. I coud probably come up with more but these are movies that I still can watch to this day

Early 2000s: Matrix and Lord of The rings-If you were alive during that time you know how HUGE both of those franchises were, it was Cinema at its peak IMO and I was a teenager so it blew my mind put Spiderman 1&2 in there a well, the 3rd one was slop

2004-2010- 40-year-old virgin, Superbad, Kick-ass-These movies all captured high school/College humor. I remeember I use to watch Superbad before hitting the clubs to get into a fun mood etc. Dark Knight as well

2010-2020-Marvel movies espeically Avengers. Avengers Infinity war is a top 5 movie IMO. I have watched the movie at least 10 times, it was peak Marvel. You'll never get Marvel like this again.

The closes IMO that we have come to any of those is Dune1 and Dune2 anything else in the last 5 years has been mostly forgettable

In addition to those that've already been mentioned:

-Sicario

-Pan's Labyrinth

-The first Saw

-Chopper

-Everything Dsnny Boyle's put forth, save perhaps Trainspecting II

-Inception

-Black Book

-All the prominent J Horror flicks of The 2000s. Not their Hollywood adaptations

-Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon

-Three Kings

-Wanted

-X-Men: Days Of Future Past

-There Will Be Blood

-Licorcie Pizza

-Dogtooth

-Collateral

-Prisoners

-RRR

The list could go an at length, though most of the entires from the last decade will be from films outside The US and UK... From '16-the present, mainstream Hollywood has been infantilized
to a degree unseen since The 1980s
