I hear what you're feeling, it's as if everything that's happening is just a dream and you're just numb to it all. With everything that's happening in the world it's hard not to let it effect you. There are ways to deal with it more effectively, at least here's what works for me. Let me warn you though, it will push your limit of just how much 'self fortitude' you have.
For me, I just refuse to carry the burden of others. Don't get me wrong, I'm am truly empathic to what's happening (more-so here in the states than abroad) but my first priority is me and my well being. The difficult thing about this approach is that with every turn, there will be someone calling you selfish for not caring or taking care of your fellow man.
My approach is the premise that the majority of people would be better off and maybe happier if they took care of their own issues and not expect someone else to clean out their basement. If more people focused on themselves and not on what should be done for them by someone else, they would have a better chance of getting what they want.
I'll preface again that I'm not religious although I could fall into the 'spiritual' category. I feel that people who choose not to be in charge of their own life profess that God has already decided upon a path for them and that he controls everything. My question is why in the world would he want to do that?
Whatever deity a person believes in or method of creation provided people three thing:
1. Life
2. Independent thought
3. The ability to choose (free will)
Given those things, I again ask why would s/he want to control everyone? Don't we have the ability to control ourselves? The bad thing is that there's so many of us who choose not to do so.
They are given life but they choose to live for the benefit of someone else, almost as if they believe that their life is not as important as the other person's. They not only forsake all others, the end up forsaking themselves too.
They have the capability of independent thought however people choose not to come to their own conclusion to things. They prefer for someone to tell them what they should think and why and if they don't they are flamed and sniped at. So people choose not to determine their own beliefs or morality, it's easier to just conform.
Lastly free will; this is the most powerful human trait. Even so, how often do people actually make choices solely on how it effects them? Yeah, I know that's selfish but within the realm of independent choices and not those to take advantage of others, how could that be such a bad thing? The thought of making a choice and having to live with it paralyzes some so much that they choose not to choose.
So given that; I chose to live my purposely and to the fullest extent that I can with my own resources. I decide my purpose and by what personal means works best to my betterment. Finally I can always choose to change my mind without fear of repercussion from anyone other than myself. I will definitely get sniped at (as in this forum) but when it comes down to it, does anyone truly have so much control as to somehow change your quality of life? If they do it's not their fault, it's yours for allowing it...
In a nutshell, the world as a whole can really be a fvcked up place. Allowing things outside of your control effect your personal being will only poison you as it has done the things that you detest. You have the ability to deflect those things. You already have the strength to do so, the question is whether or not you choose to.
Alright, I'm done with my diatribe. The soapbox is free for someone else...
