A friend of mine told me a story about a bet one of his friends made awhile back. Apparently, before the beginning of the 2007 NFL season, this guy put a fairly sizable bet on the New England Patriots to go 19-0 and win the Super Bowl. I don't know how much he put down, but the pay out was $6 million at the end.

A few days before the Super Bowl, the casino called him and offered him $3 million to settle the bet.

Obviously, hindsight is 20/20, but that was an upset of epic proportions. Do you think you would have settled?

I'm not sure if it was part of the offer, but if it were a winning stock trade, a typical strategy is to close out half and let the other half ride. I would have counter-offered the casino that I'd accept 1.5 mil now and three more if the Pats won.
