Here is a new social proofing tactic I've been having some fun with...
Almost all of the clubs in San Diego have 2 lines...A regular line and a VIP line. It is designed this way so the VIP's (anyone who works at a club or restaurant) get in first.
The concept is slightly flawed, because of strict capacity restrictions and the large amount of bar and restaurant people in SD. These VIP lines can get REALLY long and easily take an hour or more if you show up at the wrong time.
Luckily, my friends and I know a lot of bouncers, so we usually don't have to wait in either line.

Whatever. Anyways, people get bored as hell waiting in these long lines, so we've taken it upon ourselves to do something about it. Now when we go to a bar, we approach a few sets of people in the line. We usually have 1 or 2 cute girls with us already, which always looks nice.
Of course everyone else is watching us, partially cause they're bored...Mainly to see if we try to cut.
We keep the conversations short and sweet, and after a 2 or 3 sets we walk right in.
When the people in line finally make it inside, we're famous.
And usually on our 3rd drink.
