"The Coffee Shop Girl You Never Spoke To"

You've replayed it a hundred times. She stood three feet away, scrolling her phone. You had an opening. You composed the perfect line — after she was gone.

For all you know, she's married now. To some guy who said something. Anything.

Openers are cheap. Almost any sentence works when it's delivered within three seconds. The expensive part is the standing there, drafting and deleting, while the window quietly closes.

The "22 Rules" stripped out my hesitation. What to open with, how to keep it alive, and the one habit that costs guys more women than anything else: waiting for perfect.

okay, so after a handful of bad dates from speed dating and the internet, friends of friends got involved and pretty much forced me to go out with a girl they knew. she was okay. maybe a 6/7 in my book, but i'm picky. my last girlfriend was probably a 6 too, but we were so alike that it made up for it. anway, i wasn't particularly interested, but i figure we could go out on a cheap date and i could just chalk it up to experience.

so we get chinese, play a boring-ass game of putt putt (i wasn't going to use up an interesting date idea this time around) and we go back to my place. i mean, there was no kino or anything. i was actually trying to be boring so i could get rid of her. i'm actually asking her to get out of the house and she jumps on my lap and starts just going at it.

so hey, i'm in the middle of a long losing streak, so why not? our clothes are off, so i grab a condom. thing is, this girl is too damn tight. and i'm no porn star, trust me. so i go for more foreplay, and still, nothing. it was the wierdest thing.

so she's telling me, "it's all right", like i can't keep it up. but hey, you can only ram your piece into a brick wall for so long.

she did blow me though, so it wasn't a total loss.

so afterwards i can't get this girl to leave. plus she's all on me when i'm trying to sleep, and i can't deal with that. we try again early in the morning, because she's all up on top of me, and it's the same story all over again. finally at 7 am she goes home, while i sleepily prepare for work.

the silver lining here is that she's moving to florida on july 5th. so i don't have to see her again really after next wednesday, because i'm out of town for the holiday. so i'm really glad about that, because she's definitely the clingy type.

it's strange, maybe really playing the aloof card really works. because i seriously acted not interested. well, it wasn't really an act. or maybe she just wanted sex. who knows. and i'm really not that type of dude, i'd rather take it slow. but hey, when a girl is on top of you what are you supposed to do?

"You'll Never Feel READY to Walk Over"

Next Monday you'll feel more confident. After the gym you'll feel more confident. After one more drink you'll feel more confident. After you get a better haircut, a better jacket, a better job.

You've been "getting ready" for two years.

She's standing ten feet away right now. She'll be gone in four minutes. No amount of preparation will manufacture the courage that only comes from moving your feet.

Walk over. Stumble through the first sentence. Let it be clumsy. Let it be imperfect. You will feel more alive in those ten seconds than you have all month.

not a question, really. just an update kind of thing.

i'm just trying to say that even if you don't see yourself as the don juan type, things can still go down.
