"Stop Asking Your Friends What to Text Her"

Your buddy Dave has been single for three years and thinks "hey u up" is a valid strategy. Your other buddy Mike just got dumped and told you to "just be yourself."

You showed them her text. You asked them to decode the emoji. You drafted four responses and sent the screenshot to the group chat for a vote.

She's been waiting forty minutes.

Put the phone down. Stop crowdsourcing your love life. Type something that sounds like you. Hit send. Then go do literally anything else with your evening.

That's an easy one!

Just start reciting the lyrics to "What Is Love?"

You need to do it dramatically too.

If I'm going out with a girl, and I honestly don't love her, then I'd let her know that. Simple way to put it without her getting pissed is "I'm a fan of not leading people on, and you're no exception. To be honest with you, I'm not quite in love. Now don't get me wrong, you're an amazing girl, and I truly care about you, I just don't think it's love yet. At the moment, it's strong infatuation." Of course she might get pissed, but then again she might understand. I'm the kind of guy that never says "I love you" unless I feel I mean it, and I've only said it once.

On the other hand, if you want the sweet approach, do this. Figure out what attracts you to her. What little things does she do that you find cute or funny or whatever. Mention those. Don't just talk about her body. Do that at the end. Be like "Why? Well, because when you smile your eyes scrunch up and thats just incredibly cute, and I love the way you laugh. (Insert personalized BS here). Oh and by the way, you've got a killer ass" and then give a big ole sh*tty grin and wink.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
