The mentality taught by sosuave would teach us to always strive to achieve our best. So explain this statement;

''With disappointment a certainty. Why is it sensible to aim for perfection?''

Does our best=perfection? No. Just keep things in perspective. Think of sports. Every hockey player's dream is to win the Stanley Cup. Do they think they'll win it without losing any games? Of course not.
