Why do women Hype up unattractive/ugly women?

I see this very frequently. An unattractive, sometimes even extremely unattractive, woman posts on social media and the comment section is just filled with other women talking about how she looks unique and beautiful.

I just want to understand the rationale behind this. Especially because in many of these circumstances it seems borderline harmful, how is that same woman going to react when she gets a harsh ego check in real life?

I understand not saying mean things as that is just cruel, but it seems like in many cases people take things to an opposite extreme that can be just as hurtful. It’s just puzzling is all and I would like it if someone could provide some insight into this.

I've also sometimes found this puzzling. I've heard women talk other women up as being so beautiful, and I would look and think what they heck are you seeing? Either their idea of beauty doesn't always match the male idea of beauty - or possibly they think that if they can portray an unattractive woman as beautiful, that puts themselves higher up on the scale. Protects their insecurity, as it were.

Girls often use their unattractive friends as a prop to look better in comparison. If you take a look at some hotter chicks profiles, it's also common that girls do the opposite and talk down their beauty. In the book "The Manipulated Man", the author says women see each other as business competitors, so obviously they'll speak badly about their competition. "She's such a slut" is a way to bring down the reputation of their competitor. Rollo Tomassi mentions this in his book.

“Lastly, this social dynamic serves as a very effective weapon for women against each
other. Competition anxiety between women is something men can exploit for their own plate spinning, but the reason it is useful is because women so readily use it against each other. For a woman to say another woman is a “slut” translates into an overt betrayal of this unspoken social contrivance. ”

Edit: Also, women know they're lying when they say this. They might "hamster" and think they're doing it to support their "girl" or whatever, but obviously you're not going to want your competitor to improve themselves so they can surpass you. So you tell them a sweet little lie, " Ohh shes soooo pretty!!!", now you don't have to worry about there being another girl better looking than you are. This is also why the fat positivity movement is a thing. If there's someone even worse looking than you are, than that's just one less competitor to compete against.

They'll never admit to it, obviously to save face.

Women are far more reliant on group dynamics than men are. To say something that breaks up the group dynamic, or gets them booted from a group, is against their survival strategy.

Maybe they look at ugly chicks and think they are just as ugly?

There are a few reasons. The hyper is friend of the ugly chic and wants her to get a man. The hyper would like for the low-status man she is talking to get interested in someone else - also long this line is to basically develop a tier system where she considers the hypee to be in, and that is lower then the hyper's tier; this also makes any woman - such as the hyper - that is objectively more attractive than the hyped ugly chick be considered as even more attractive. The hyper would like for men to be less discerning so that when the hyper gets fat, she will be considered desirable. And of course, there is the fact that women can't discern what is truly attractive to men.

And we haven't even gotten into "she really is a nice person".

Women know how brutal the looks pill really is, but they only have empathy for other women in that context (not men). It’s a “girl code” of sorts.

One decent “looks test” is who the attractive female friend tries to set the nice guy (aka friendzone guy) up with. My female friend is a Stacey-lite (very high 7). We were at a dance for Halloween and she suggested that I ask this other girl to dance. Surprisingly, the chick she suggested wasn’t fat. She was a low 6 (Becky) but decent.
