Anything can be an opener so it's pointless to debate the best one. Focus should be more on closing than opening and I don't know any indirect closes. Get direct earlier in the interaction if you value your time. What's the point of having a "great indirect" conversation for an hour that ends up going nowhere? I give you an example from table tennis. It is one of the most fun sports. Normally one wants to play with guys who are better than you and you want that they give you an advantage.

In normal life it is hard work to get to the level that good players accept you. On the other hand if you pay a personal trainer you can get what you want. You can train the way you want and don't have to worry that he acts like an asshoole.

I think one can learn pickup skills better in countries like Philippines where girls are much more natural and human than in the West. I think pick up skills can be learned more professionally with acting classes and personal trainer and so on. If you are 4 and you don't have the 'help' you might burn out and end like a weirdo.
