This has been brought up multiple times since it was introduced well over 15 years ago. There are several reasons for it, but the only thing that matters is that it's not going to change. The site owner has ruled that it stays as it is.
Slightly obfuscating circumvention is tolerated, such as using v instead of u, ! instead of i and 0 instead of o. Any other form of circumvention which makes the words appear in clear text is not tolerated.
A few words which people think are filtered are in fact not, you can say ass, sex, penis and vagina. Adding hole after ass filters the word though. The more vulgar variants of the 3 other words are filtered.
