"She Wants a Man, Not a Boy"

You asked her if she wanted to grab coffee. Then you asked if the time worked. Then you asked if the place was okay. Then you asked if she'd prefer tea.

Four questions. Four chances for her to say no. Four signals that you're terrified of making a decision.

Plan it. Pick the place. Pick the time. Tell her where to meet you. She'll either show up or she won't.

Either way, you look like a man instead of a scared little boy.

Well it's been a month... I'm glad the forum hasnt changed too much.. (hmm..is that good or bad?) :p

Ok, open your eyes:

When i was 16 years old, i still sounded like a girl. I would get confused with my mother when answering the phone. That didnt bother me much, but i was starting to wonder when the hell my voice will start changing..getting deeper and more "man like".

A year or so later my voice did indeed become deeper, and i was quite satisfied, untill i heard myself on the phone...i still sounded nothing like the man i imagined.

I started purposly lowering my voice, which was critisized by my parents and friends. I laughed it off, but kept at it.

A year later i didnt force anything, my voice was deeper and it was completly natural...which was the key to me.

However, it still didnt sound right.. it didnt have the ring to it.

Then i ran into Fingz's post about voice projection.. I tried it, and it didnt seem to work for me. I could say a sentence or two, but then i'd lose it and the voice would go back to normal. However, i kept at it, and over the next 8 months kept trying singing, freestyling and talking while emphasizing this technique.

Now, i wasnt sure how well i was doing untill last week..honestly i wasnt thinking about this voice projection much at all..

In my business class we had to do a quick speech on a random subject given to you as you walk on stage.

I got "what does it mean to prove yourself" and let the people know what i think for the next 2 minutes. As i got to my desk, my classmates started exchanging opinions of my speech..

A guy next to me states:
"Dennis had projected his voice very well, it sounded really good" ... people start nodding and agreeing with the statement.

My teacher's reponse was, "yes, i've noticed that too, i guess some people are lucky and are born with it...and some are not"...

I was looking at them with amazement! I wasnt born with this.. I worked a long time for this..and apparently now im getting there... and this got me thinking..

Notice how many people give lame ass excuses when watching the greats perform.. How many people still claim the good old "Im white so i cant dance, play basketball, or rap" .. I am going to slap the next person who says this.. becuase all that is just bull****.. but how easy it is to claim that you are not good becuase you were not born with it, or "it is just not you"...

I have good friends who are decent with girls.. and i have a couple who just plain suck.. guess what those guys always say .. "Well, I am not you Dennis, i wasnt born that way"... Well champ, what the hell were you born as, becuase you keep on telling me about this girl you want for the last 3 years and still havent kissed her!!

Guys, it is time to stop making the pathetic excuses. Next time you meet someone who is better than you at something, ASK FOR ADVICE instead of calming yourself with excuses... nobody has ever gotten great without working for it.

Oxide..good to see the old schoolers back on here. Just came back myself after an LTR. Its funny how the stuff here doesn't change much and fellas are still having the same questions regarding DJing.

Good post. Question though. I think it was you that posted a topic discussing the "ego tower" I saved it on an old computer and dont have the link.

Been searching it on here and can't find it.

If you got the link, hook me up bro.

"I just moved here from Florida."

That sentence contains at least five follow-up questions she WANTS you to ask. Where in Florida? What brought you here? How long have you been in the area? What do you miss? How does it compare to here?

She handed them to you on a silver platter. And you said, "Oh cool. I come here every week. I love this band. Ummm... pretty crowded tonight."

She smiled politely. Nodded. And never texted you back.

I was that guy for years. Talking too much. Listening too little. Panicking about my next sentence while she was literally feeding me the answers.

Then I found 22 rules that fixed the whole thing. Rule number one: shut up and listen. She'll tell you exactly what to say.
