Where were you in September 11 and how has that day impacted your life?

I’ll go first, I was in High School when I first saw it, I was in second period Algebra class when I saw the towers go down. Football practice got canceled that day and I was unaware how this could really impact everyone’s future. I went to College afterwards, then joined The Military and the rest was history. What about you guys? Where were you on that faithful day and how has it impacted your life?

I was in middle school in East Boston and had recently arrived in the U.S. from Colombia. I lived about five minutes away from the airport where the two planes took off, and I spoke very little English.

At around 10:00 a.m., they told us over the intercom that we had to leave. I asked one of my classmates what they were saying, but even though she spoke English, she was confused too. She said there was some sort of bomb or something.

We left the school, and since there were no buses because it was within walking distance, there were a bunch of police officers in the middle of the street, frantically directing traffic and rushing everyone away from the area. Everything felt chaotic and panicked. As soon as I got home, I saw the towers on TV...

I was trading stocks. The first news was that a small plane like a cesna had hit one of the towers. The premarket trading was still open. I loaded up a big order to short sell and then didn't send it. Because the general rule is to buy into bad news, not sell. The news is not usually as bad as the first story to break. That day was an exception to the rule.

Apart from the 2003 Blackout, and the 2020 pandemic, I don't remember that level of dread that there was an attack taking place like that time. It's not just the buildings where hit, it's like you don't know if that was the beginning and how many other planes. I knew one was heading to Washington and they shut down all air travel until further notice. Suppose 10 or 20 other planes were going to crash like bombs elsehwere as part of some coordinated attack. That's what I was thinking at the time.

startup company. we all thought it was a joke or fake. like, no, its impossible..... was really bad news for the east Indian men in tech... i am not in that group, but it was horrific for them in the following months.

In a gym in northern England. I'd just finished a workout and somebody called me over to the TV, "come and look at this". A small group of us then watched the horror unfold on screen.

I was getting a major medical checkup (multiple tests), and didn't realize how grave is was until I was in a waiting room that (with no sound) had the TV on with news anchors showing the clip of the tower imploding. It was probably 8 hours after the initial event that I got to my car and could listen to the radio, then a half-hour to get home to watch the TV news & search the 'net.

I like to buy after an event overcorrects the market, like after the Japanese earthquake.

I worked the evening shift, so I got up about one in the afternoon to get ready. I put the radio on in the bathroom like I always did, and it was quickly apparent something serious had happened. The way they were talking, my first thought was that someone had dropped a nuke. But it wasn't long before they explained the details.
