Thats my experience awfully as a man in his late 30s.
I can have women way above my league if I hint at a relationship but I cant have them for a dinner if I make it clear I dont.
None of that happened in my 20s where girls were either into me or not regardless the long term gain.
But the problem is way deeper than that, for those younger that cant relate yet keep in mind that just like bonding in women get screwed up from a high boy count, it also get screwed up in men with age when rationality takes over and the most emotionally impacting experience have been done already.
A man that built himself from crude marble into a sculpture will be much less sensitive to water, winds and even pickaxes compared to his original undefined form that needed work.
